What is Rover?
Rover is an advanced tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to allow users to query BSAVA’s comprehensive range of practical veterinary content - ask natural language questions and receive precise, source-backed answers on small animal veterinary practice topics.

Who can use Rover?
Rover is intended for use by BSAVA members and other veterinary professionals, including vets, veterinary nurses, and students.

How do I access Rover?
To use Rover, login with your usual BSAVA website login details. If you have not registered with the BSAVA website, you can register here. Note, registration is free of charge and does not make you a BSAVA member. If you wish to become a BSAVA member, please visit our website for more information.

Can I trust the answers?
The responses will be based on BSAVA’s trusted content. However, all AI tools can introduce errors, and the information will only be as up-to-date as the source content – the responses should not be used to replace professional judgement and we would always advise checking the original sources. Please ensure you have read our terms of service.

Where will Rover get its answers from?
Rover currently searches all the text content in the BSAVA Library – Formulary, Manuals, Guides, client leaflets and more, together with some additional content including BSAVA’s Scientific Position Statements, our pocketbooks, and our Textbook of Veterinary Nursing. The sources used for each answer will be provided alongside the response. Rover will primarily focus on BSAVA content, but may enrich answers with additional material.  We plan to add further content in future enabling you to query lectures, webinars and video content to find the answers you need.

Source content
Alongside the response to your query, you will see summary snippets from the source content used to generate the response. See our source FAQs page for information relating to the source content and links to the BSAVA Library.

What do BSAVA members get?
Currently, BSAVA members receive 25 free queries per month.  Members receive significant discounts on all purchase options.

I’m not a BSAVA member, can I use Rover?
Currently, non-members who have registered with us receive 5 free queries per month. You will need to have a login to access your queries. If you do not already have a login for the BSAVA website, you can register here. Note, registration is free of charge and does not make you a BSAVA member. If you wish to become a BSAVA member, please visit our website for more information. See our purchase plans for enhanced access options.

I have access to the BSAVA Library through my institution or practice, how does that work with Rover?
Rover is a tool for personal use and so individual login is required. If you do not already have a login to the BSAVA website, you can register here. See our source FAQs page for more information on accessing the source content in the BSAVA Library.

How do I know how many queries I have left?
The number of queries you have left is displayed at the bottom of the main menu and also on your account page. The main menu will appear on the left side of the screen if you are using a desktop computer. If you are using a mobile device, tap on the menu icon at the top left of the screen to open the menu.

What if I use up my monthly queries?
If you use up all your queries you can either wait until the start of the next month for these to be refreshed, you will see a notice pop-up directing you to further options.

Do unused queries roll over to the next month?
No, at the end of each month the query limit will be reset - so if you are enjoying using Rover, please make sure you make the best use of it each month!

Can I access previous queries?
Recent query threads are displayed on the main menu and the responses, together with any follow up questions, can be accessed from there. The main menu will appear on the left side of the screen if you are using a desktop computer. If you are using a mobile device, tap on the menu icon at the top left of the screen to open the menu. At the bottom of the recent query list is a link to view your full query history.

Rover didn't answer my question, what should I do next?
If you feel that the response does not adequately answer your question, try asking follow up questions using different or more specific language. It can take practice to perfect an AI prompt. If you feel that an answer is factualy inaccurate or misleading, please send us details so that we can work to improve the tool and/or our content. It is also possible that our content does not cover your specific query - in this case, the response should make this clear. Again, we would welcome your feedback so that we can create content that is relevant and essential to veterinary practice.

Are my questions used to train Rover?
No, the AI technology is simply being used to query BSAVA's content to provide responses to your questions. However, we may review the questions being asked to help us improve Rover and develop content that is relevant to the profession. Note that data about questions asked will only be used to help us improve our service and content, and will not be made available outside BSAVA.

How can I use the AI responses?
Rover is designed to help you in your professional veterinary practice, study or learning. The responses generated are yours to use subject to some conditions:

  • The AI Assistant provides information based on trusted veterinary sources; however, it is intended for informational support only and does not replace professional clinical judgment or account for patient-specific variables. Users are responsible for applying information in accordance with veterinary regulations and ethical standards. Always verify critical decisions using official guidelines or expert consultation. For urgent or complex cases, seek guidance from a qualified veterinary professional.
  • Use of this tool must comply with our Terms of Service, including restrictions on the reproduction, redistribution, or commercial use of AI-generated content. AI responses may not be used to create commercially available products, publications, or services without explicit permission. Users remain responsible for ensuring all actions align with veterinary regulations, ethical standards, and professional obligations.
  • You credit the sources used to generate the response.
  • You do not use the AI response in contravention of other terms that may be in place such as those provided by universities and employers. Students should not use AI-generated responses as their own work for academic assignments, including essays or reports, as this may contravene academic integrity policies. All students are responsible for ensuring their use of the AI complies with academic integrity standards and their institution's policies.

Can I ask a question in another language?
Yes, if you ask a question in a different language, Rover will answer in the same language. Please note that, given the additional potential for errors in translation, you should be particularly careful to verify the accuracy of the response.

How can I provide feedback on Rover’s responses?
Each response includes an option for you to rate the quality of the information, and there is a general feedback option in the main menu. Your feedback helps us improve the accuracy and functionality of Rover and also the content offering in the BSAVA Library.

How does Rover support BSAVA’s mission?
This innovation reflects BSAVA’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve access to trusted veterinary knowledge while enhancing user experience and supporting professional development.

How does Rover improve the BSAVA Library experience?
Rover simplifies the search process by providing concise, relevant answers, eliminating the need to sift through numerous search results.

How do you plan to develop Rover?
We have a number of ideas for developing this service, including adding multimedia content, adding licensed content from third parties, integrating Rover with the app version of our Formulary, adding the ability to buy additional blocks of queries, and more. Your feedback and ideas are very welcome as they will help us make Rover a valuable tool for the profession.

Will my data be secure when using Rover?
Yes, user data is anonymised and handled in accordance with strict privacy standards.
